Hugh O’Flaherty Memorial Society Unveiling of Memorial to Coincide with 50th Anniversary

On Saturday 19th January there was a special event to thank eight new Patrons of the Hugh O’Flaherty Memorial Society. Each Patron was presented with a limited edition Maquette of the Sculpture, created by Valentia Sculpture Alan Hall-Ryan.

In the year that marks the 50th Anniversary of his death, the Hugh O’Flaherty Memorial Society is reaching out to the county of Kerry and north Cork in seeking assistance in a number of ways i.e., Stories, Memorabilia, Photographs, and for those wishing to support the Memorial Fund, they can do so by becoming Friends or Patrons of the Society

Miriam Murphy – International Soprano headlines 115th Birthday Anniversary Celebrations

The Hugh O’Flaherty Memorial Society has announced details of the 115th Birthday Anniversary Celebrations in honour of Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty. The main event will be a superb Musical Concert on the evening of Thursday February 28th at 8.00.p.m. in the magnificent recently refurbished conference and event centre in The Malton Hotel.

Great O'Flaherty Celebration Concert of Classical Music & Song

Soprano Miriam Murphy travelled over from London to perform at the Concert. Accompanied by Aidan O'Carroll and his various orchestral and choral groups from the Kerry School of Music, they held the audience in a celebration of classical and operatic music for over two hours in the sumptuous surroundings of the newly re-furbished Malton Hotel Conference Suite.

As part of the "2013 Gathering" of friends, patrons and families of Monsignor Hugh O'Flaherty (a.k.a. The Vatican Pimpernel), American Independence Day was celebrated in style on Main Street Killarney on Thursday night when the Irish Army "Band 1 Brigade" under the baton of Conductor Capt. Brian Prendergast, brought the large audience of locals and visitors on a musical journey of Swing, Military and Broadway music from the 40's to the current day.

Hugh O'Flaherty statue to be unveiled during Memorial Week

After many years of fundraising the Statue of Monsignor Hugh O'Flaherty and full installation will be unveiled as part of the Memorial Week on Wednesday 30th October, to mark the 50th anniversary of his death.

Killarney in O'Flaherty's Time 1909-1922

As part of the Opening Day of the 2013 Hugh O'Flaherty Memorial Week, with the help of the Muckross House Trustees, the organising committee are presenting an Illustrated Talk by local historian Michael O'Connor, on what life was like in Killarney when Hugh O'Flaherty lived here before going to Rome to complete his priesthood studies in 1922.

O'Flaherty Trail Coach Tour - Killarney & Cahirsiveen

After the success of last year's O'Flaherty Trail Coach Tour, another Tour has been organised for this year on Saturday morning November 2nd. Commencing in Killarney at 9.00.a.m., the group will visit a number of relevant sites with strong connections to the Monsignor's life in Killarney and will include a visit to the O'Flaherty Memorial on Beech Road and the unveiling of a Plaque at the Mural on Hugh O'Flaherty Road at the top of High St.

God Has No Country One Man Play gets great reviews

In a tribute to one of Killarney’s most heroic sons, Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty, "God Has No Country" written and performed by Donal Courtney, was premiered at the Malton Hotel, 29th October 2013 during the recent Hugh O’Flaherty Memorial Week.
