Patrons of Hugh O'Flaherty Society

Patron of the Hugh O'Flaherty Society

The Society was founded in 2008 to honour the memory of Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty.

The Society hopes to achieve its aims by:

  1. Erecting a bronze memorial to him in his native Killarney;
  2. During the annual O’Flaherty Memorial Weekend, honouring people who work for human rights;
  3. Promoting interest among this and future generations in the Monsignor’s life and achievements through the medium of art, literature, music, drama.

The Society needs at least €100,000 to attain these objectives. We rely mainly on the support of Patrons and Friends.

Patrons are those who contribute a minimum of €1000 towards the objectives of the Hugh O’Flaherty Memorial Society.  This may be done in a number of ways, for instance:

  • An Individual or Corporate body may contribute over a period of time, e.g., 2 or 3  years.
  • A Family or Group of Friends or Colleagues may pool resources.
  • A School or Society may run an event in support of the project.
On completion of the donation, a 20cm Maquette of the life-size bronze statue that has been commissioned for his native Killarney will be presented to the donor.

The statue shows Monsignor in a soutane striding purposefully, with Roman hat and breviary in hand.

These Maquettes are from a limited edition of 50 and each one bears the Issue Number and the Sculptor’s signature.

Patrons will also receive a copy of the Igloo Films / TG4 Hugh O’Flaherty documentary titled “The Pimpernel of the Vatican” and a “Friends of Hugh O’Flaherty Society” Lapel Pin.

They will also receive invitations to the events of the O’Flaherty Memorial Weekend held in Killarney in November each year.

Patrons will be acknowledged in the Patron's List on the  www.hughoflaherty.com website (unless they wish to remain anonymous).

If you wish to receive more information on becoming a Patron and supporting the aims of the Society, without obligation please contact us on [email protected] or call +353 (0)64 6637928+353 (0)64 6637928
