  • A Decade of Humanitarian Heroes Honoured

    In 2008, the Hugh O’Flaherty Memorial Society was formed in his home town of Killarney. It was decided we should honour his memory by acknowledging his humanitarian works during the 1930’s in Haiti and San Domingo and the early 1940’s during WW2 in Rome.

    Before a large audience in the unique and beautiful St Mary’s Church of Ireland in Killarney, including foreign Ambassadors and Diplomats and UN Veterans, Killarney’s Deputy Mayor Niall Kelleher presented the Hugh O’Flaherty Humanitarian Award Scroll last evening to Minister for Defence Paul Kehoe and Irish UN Veterans Chairman Jim Casey.

    The Bravery of Fr. Anselmus - A New TV Documentary

    Thanks to family members, a new 15 min TV documentary has been produced for Dutch Television dealing with the life of Antoon Musters (Fr Anselmus). As a young priest during WW2 in occupied Rome he was active in the Rome Escape Line. In May 1944 he was captured by the Gestapo, interrogated and tortured but refused to betray his colleagues in the Escape Line.
