Killarney in O'Flaherty's Time 1909-1922

07 October, 2013

As part of the Opening Day of the 2013 Hugh O'Flaherty Memorial Week, with the help of the Muckross House Trustees, the organising committee are presenting an Illustrated Talk by local historian Michael O'Connor, on what life was like in Killarney when Hugh O'Flaherty lived here before going to Rome to complete his priesthood studies in 1922.

The talk is scheduled for 3.30.p.m. on Sunday Oct 27th at the Schoolhouse in Muckross Traditional Farms.

Michael O'Connor said, "By any measure, this was a dramatic time in the history of Killarney, Ireland and indeed the World. Embracing events like the 1913 burning of Killarney House, the Great Lockout in Dublin, The First World War, Easter Rising, War of Independence and Civil War, - just to mention a few".  "Our presentation will focus at times on Local, National & International events as we go through the 13 years and will include some wonderful pictorial memories of what Killarney looked like at the time", he added.

After the Illustrated Talk, the 6th Hugh O'Flaherty Memorial Week will be officially opened by Micheal O'Muircheartaigh.

Admission is free and all are welcome.
