The Scarlet Pimpernel’s Permanent Residence Unveiled!

On Wednesday 30th October, a sculpture was unveiled to permanently commemorate the Irish World War II hero, Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty.

Tour to Rome and Montecassino

After an incredibly successful O’Flaherty WW2 Rome tour in October 2012, the Hugh O’Flaherty Memorial Society has asked tour organisers Cultural Connections to arrange a repeat tour in November 2014, which will feature some new places of interest, including the historic mountain top Benedictine Monastery of Montecassino.

Nominations invited for the 6th Annual Hugh O'Flaherty International Humanitarian Award

As part of the 7th annual Hugh O’Flaherty Memorial Weekend, which will take place from November 14th to 16th in Killarney, The Hugh O’Flaherty Memorial Society are inviting the public and companies to nominate the person or organisation they feel is doing outstanding humanitarian work and most deserving of the 2014 Hugh O’Flaherty International Humanitarian Award.

Remembering the WW2 Liberation of Rome June 4th 1944

To mark to 70th Anniversary of the WW2 Liberation of Rome and the 20th Anniversary of the creation of The Hugh O'Flaherty Memorial Grove in Muckross Arboretum, the Grove was rededicated at a special ceremony at 7.00pm on Wednesday evening, June 4th.

Literary and Art competitions - 2014

Ancestors from Ireland Launch O'Flaherty Family History

Having conducted a thorough genealogical study, Rachel Foley of Ancestors from Ireland, officially launched the O'Flaherty Family History, taking in family origins in Co. Galway and Co. Cork. Special Muckross Bound editions of the history were presented to the Monsignor's nephew Judge Hugh O'Flaherty and niece, Pearl Dineen.

Extended O'Flaherty Photo & Memorabilia Exhibition Opens

Killarney Chamber Vice President Kate O'Leary officially opened the 2014 O'Flaherty Photo and Memorabilia Exhibition at Killarney Library on Wednesday October 30th 2014. County Librarian Tommy O'Connor welcomed the opening of the Exhibition which will run for two weeks.

At a well-attended prize giving ceremony for the winners in the Hugh O’Flaherty Literary & Art Competitions 2014 held in Killarney Library on Monday November 10th, Cllr John Joe Culloty, Mayor of the Killarney Municipal Area praised all of the winning entries and in particular those submitted by the younger generation.

One of the highlights of the Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty Memorial Week took place on Saturday 15th November at the Killarney Plaza Hotel, Killarney when the 2014 Annual Hugh O’Flaherty International Humanitarian Award was presented to international humanitarian Dr John Beavis, who has over 21 years devoted his life to humanitarian aid in parts of the world afflicted by disaster, either natural or from conflict through his work with the organisation he founded IDEALS.

As part of the 7th Hugh O'Flaherty Memorial Weekend on Saturday November 15th 2014, Mayor of Kerry Cllr. Jim Finnucane and President of Killarney Chamber of Commerce, Johnny McGuire, unveiled a Commemorative Plaque on the wall of what was the original O'Flaherty home in Chapel Street, Tralee.
